Your Question:
Hi. I have a question about male nurses. I am thinking of a career path in nursing and am a male, age 48. Is this a crazy idea? I have no college experience and I am scared to death. Can i do this? should i do this? Help me!!!!!!
My answer:
Hi Richard. Congrats to you for wanting to go back to school. I personally think this is a great idea! Yes, it will be tough to go back to school and you will probably be one of the older students, but really, who cares?
I love working with male nurses. As I am in an ICU, I work with more than most due to ratios.
I think first you need to decide what type of schooling your are interested in and then GO FOR IT!
With your background, I might suggest looking into an
associate nursing degree but I think you could do any of them really! If this is what you really want to do, I would not let anyone talk you out of it. While there still may be a small stigma about male nurses in the outside world, the healthcare system loves them! I applaud you in your courage!
