RN to BSN Programs
Have your cake and eat it too!

RN to BSN programs are perfect plans for those type of people who want it all.

It's very simple. First you get your ADN (two year nursing degree) and get a job. Then you apply to this type of program and get your Bachelor of Science in Nursing through more classroom time.

Many of these transitional nursing programs are online. You can easily find these through Google. Just look for online nursing programs and you will get over one million results. Most are supported by a particular university. When looking for a program, make sure and research their certifications.

If you are not the online learning type, look locally. Many hospitals want to employ BSNs. It looks better for them from a PR stance. For that reason, there are many programs available at hospital facilities. Usually the classes are offered one to two days per week. What better way to ensure you get off for class time than to take the classes at your place of employment! That is genius I think!

RN to BSN programs take one to two years to complete. Note that many of these programs are only offered on a part-time basis because they know you will be trying to work and go to school. According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, there are more than 630 nationwide programs you can choose from. Over 300 of these programs are offered as online nursing programs.

I think these programs are great for a few reasons. I think you will agree with me!

  • You can make money (real full-time money) while going to school
  • Hospitals are starting to favor BSNs. This may soon, if it isn’t already, affect your salary
  • The idea of having a four-year degree helps the professionalism of nursing to the outside world
  • It is a great stepping stone if you want to get your masters degree
