Scholarship Interview Tips
You may have to go for a scholarship interview if the scholarship you have applied for is for a lot of money.
When I interviewed for my four year scholarship I cried over an emotional, but proud, moment I was asked to describe. I was mortified!! Could not believe that I had actually shed tears in front of a panel of sophisticated panelist!Picture this--I was asked to describe on of my proudest moments. I was describing happen to be a soccer game I played in a week after two good friends had died in a car accident and how the team came together and respected the girls honor during the game. I had started crying while talking and when I finished talking (thinking "way to blow it Shannon!") and looked around at the panelists, yes all bleary eyed, one of the judges looked at me with tears in her eyes. She said to me “Yeah that was a great moment”! Turns out she was a soccer mom for the opposing team during that game. Please understand, my application got me the scholarship interview, but I truly believe the personal touch and showing myself as a real person actually got me the money! If you are applying for scholarships that require interviews start preparing your answers to possible questions—out loud! Borrow a friend and ask them to pose a question to you off a list you have prepared. Then answer them like you would in a real setting. Find your most honest friend to get the best feedback. Some common interview questions are - Why do you deserve this scholarship?
- What made you want to become a nurse?
- Who has inspired you most to go to college/become a nurse/go back to school?
- What are your long term goals in the nursing profession?
The more people you can become used to talking in front of the better! I say practice practice practice and definitely be yourself!
